Usually the reign of an older console would be winding down by this point, with its successor taking the spotlight. But Sony’s wedge-shaped machine has racked up an impressive catalog of exclusive titles.
From Software’s drool-worthy Bloodborne lives up to its hype. Yharnam’s world drips with atmosphere, and every corner hides a grotesque monster or fascinatingly twisted piece of lore.
Grand Theft Auto V
The original version of Grand Theft Auto V was released back in 2013. It has since become one of the most popular games ever made, selling over 180 million copies. Now, it’s making the jump to next-gen consoles.
Rockstar’s ‘Expanded and Enhanced’ version of the game features upgraded graphics, faster load times, and more. It also includes a new Career Mode that allows players to work towards promotions in their chosen careers and unlock new vehicles and weapons. There are also several improvements to the DualSense controller, including haptics that can cause rumbles in the controller based on driving conditions and an updated camera.
Overall, this is a great upgrade for current owners of the game. However, if you already played the original game, it might not be worth a double-dip. The faster loading times and higher resolution and frame rate might not be enough to warrant upgrading for. Unless, of course, you are planning on playing the inevitable GTA 6. But that’s still months away.
Bloodborne
When Bloodborne was released in 2015, it wowed players with its brutal difficulty and unsettling atmosphere. It was a unique and unforgettable experience that fans have been asking for ever since.
While the game was a critical and commercial success, there are still some issues that need to be addressed. The most significant issue is that the camera is a bit problematic and can get in the way of the gameplay experience.
Additionally, the game lacks several accessibility options that are standard in most modern games. This includes things like subtitles and colorblind options, which are important for a wide range of players.
A remaster of the game would help to fix these issues and make it a more accessible game for all players. It would also allow players to enjoy the gameplay of this amazing title without any of the annoyances that can be associated with it.
God of War Ragnarok
It may not quite be the once-in-a-generation delight that its predecessor was, but God of War Ragnarok has enough going for it to earn its own special place in the Playstation 4 games Developed by Santa Monica Studio and set in ancient Norse mythology, the game stars Kratos and his son Atreus as they journey through stunning, mythological landscapes while facing an onslaught of gods, giants, and other fearsome creatures.
Players can choose between a handful of graphics modes when playing God of War Ragnarok on PS4 Pro, including Favor Performance and Favor Resolution. The former offers a locked frame rate of 60 fps with a resolution between 1440p and 1656p, while the latter is more focused on performance than image quality.
On base PS4, the game runs at 30 fps with 1080p resolution. It also supports a new DualSense controller, which features haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for a more immersive experience. However, players can still use their regular DualShock 4 controllers.
Horizon: Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is a 2017 open world game that stars Aloy, a young hunter in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by machines. The game was developed by Guerrilla Games (known for the Killzone series), and features a mechanized society with ancient ruins and tribal settlements.
The graphics in Horizon are nothing short of incredible, and the game has become a must-play for PS4 owners. Its setting is incredibly detailed and features everything from rubble to foliage, while its sky is rendered using a real-time cloud simulation that enables a realistic portrayal of the world’s atmosphere.
The game also has a fantastic soundtrack that is perfectly suited to the world’s ambiance and gameplay. And of course, there are the robots themselves, which are beautifully modeled and extremely impressive to combat. Combined with a great story, Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the best Playstation 4 exclusives available.
